In 2001, Capt. M.S. Kohli, Chairman, Himalayan Environment
Trust, mooted the idea of bringing out an online journal
periodically. A senior journalist, Yogendra Bali and a scout leader
R.S. Somi, agreed to take up the assignment and responsibility.
It was decided that Bali will guide and provide his expertise
whenever needed. The first issue was brought out immediately
under the name 'HIMALAYAS ONLINE' and since then it has been
emailed every quarter to almost 10,000 beneficiaries.
This online journal consists of news and notes as well as small
write-ups on the environmental issues concerning all the Himalayan
countries viz. India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Burma and
China. The source of the information for compilation is various
newspapers, periodicals and other information received at the
HET. The same is edited and fine-tuned to the requirement of
'HIMALAYAS ONLINE' by R.S. Somi. This has not only promoted the
objectives of the HET but had been disseminating knowledge of the
Himalayan geography, geology, climate change, flora and fauna,
developmental activities, culture and people. The HIMALAYAS
ONLINE has atrracted praise from all quarters.
